Unveiling the new version of the Puro Standard General Rules 4.0

We are pleased to announce the revision to the Puro Standard General Rules, a result of changes aimed at aligning our carbon removal rules with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (IC-VCM). The new rules is now available in the Puro Standard document library

We would like to express our gratitude for the extensive public engagement during the consultation period, with more than 200 comments received and addressed. The public consultation feedback was supportive of the new requirements and helped us to improve the rules to ensure they deliver the net in net-zero emissions and can be implemented. You can read the public consultation feedback and responses here.

Key updates approved by the Advisory Board

Scientific quantification and safety of the environment have always been the key considerations for the Puro Standard. On 01 February, the Advisory Board, approved changes to implement:

  • Enhanced monitoring and reporting, including the opportunity for closer to real-time on-going issuances,
  • Enhanced quantification rules of indirect emissions (leakage) and uncertainty
  • Requirements on reporting positive impacts on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and enhanced consultation (FPIC),
  • Rules to enable CO2 Removal Certificates (CORCs) use for compliance in the aviation market (CORSIA), and other compliance markets, should they accept the Puro Standard in the future.

For enhanced transparency and ease of communication, you can now access our Artificial Intelligence (AI) demo and use it to ask questions and seek clarification on our revised Puro Standard General Rules 4.0. We hope you enjoy it.

Working with global benchmarks: What’s next?

We are proud to share that our CEO Antti Vihavainen has been appointed as a member of IC-VCM’s Continuous Improvement Work Group. We are committed to supporting this global benchmark for the supply of carbon credits, aligning with IC-VCM's vision that “build integrity and scale will follow”. We aim to submit our application for CORSIA compliance period 2024-2026 and ICVCM CCPs, whilst preparing the Puro Registry to implement the approved changes.

As we roll out the implementation of these changes, we remain dedicated to supporting the CO2 Removal Suppliers and helping Governments to meet their national pledges as the world seeks to achieve net-zero emissions.
